Halo on the PSP, FINALLY!

Submitted by mintz on April 1, 2006 - 12:05am.

Yes folks, it's finally here! Click the "Read More" link for the rest of the story.

Edit: Yes folks, as if it wasn't obvious enough, this is an old April Fools gag.

Many doubters said it wouldn't be possible, yet the day is finally here. A group of hackers calling themselves "Inf1del" have contacted Halo: Portable via email to tell us that they have successfully managed to build a running copy of Halo 2 on the PSP! I know you have many, many questions, so allow me to expound.

Are Halo 2's graphics even possible on the PSP?

Of course! The PSP has been heralded as the most advanced portable gaming machine on the market today; it's been known to be almost as powerful as the PS2. Die-hard PS2 fanboys have known for years that Halo would work just fine on the PS2, so why not the PSP?

How do the controls work?

Infide1 made very intuitive controls! The left analog stick moves you, and the triangle, square, circle, and X buttons are your aim! If you want to use the buttons like you would on Xbox (where you could jump, melee, reload, switch weapon), you simply have to hold down both triggers before you press the button. Right-trigger is shoot, and left-trigger is grenade, of course! Press the up arrow to use your flashlight, and the down arrow to switch your type of grenade. For teamspeak, simply lick the left arrow.

Are there any multiplayer modes?

Of course! You can use Sonybox Live (which requires a wireless LAN), or System Link. Sonybox Live is absolutely free, but you may suffer from:

  • Extreme lag
  • Jerks with headsets
  • No servers
  • No service during peak times
  • No user interface
  • No customer support
  • No patches. Ever!
  • Incredibly easy to hack!

For System Link, a special USB cord is required, like the one shown below:

What version of Firmware do I need to run Halo 2?

Just download and install version 4.0 of Sony's latest firmware. You can find it at their official site. You should be able to find it right away.

1nfidel has done quite an amazing job with this port. Here is an in-game screenshot of multiplayer, showcasing the excellent graphics we've come to know from the Halo series:

And finally, for those of you that still doubt (no idea how, after all this evidence), look no further than this high-quality video, which shows definite proof that Halo gaming is possible on this handheld.

yeah I have to agree this has to be total bullsh#t, I mean good Ideal and good controls Ideals but this viedo and pics has to be fake especialy the UmD disk. I would like to see a halo portable but its propably not going to happen any time soon or ever

You can tell this is total bullshit. First of all, the "hackers" would be facing a HUGE ASS lawsuit from Bungie. Second, it's April Fools, and third, most of the screenshots aren't genuiue.

That is absolute bullshit...
its just photoshoped images and the "game demo" is just a video recorded from an xbox and playing on a psp (note the cropped parts)

Submitted by 13th fleet (not verified) on April 1, 2006 - 7:55am.

Thought so, the graphics are too good for a PSP.

Ur all really gullible if you believe this- on the same day that a Halo DS version was "announced." Dont believe anything that you see on the internet this close to April Fools day.

Submitted by n00b (not verified) on April 1, 2006 - 1:09pm.

LMAO, The "PSP Screen" in the first pic goes off the actual screen. (The glow from the Video Icon) So fake. And the guy is off sync in the video. THe USB thing looks like garbage too. Wow, really sad if you guys beleive this. Sad for the people at Halo: Portable too, I'm outta here.
